This post is all about a simple laundry routine for busy moms.
Laundry used to feel like an endless battle in our home.
As a busy mom of five, I could never seem to get ahead—there were always baskets overflowing and socks missing their match!

But everything shifted when I discovered a simple laundry routine for busy moms: one load a day.
This small change brought so much more peace and calm to our home, and today, I’m excited to share exactly how it works (and how you can start too!).
Why One Load a Day Works
Laundry overwhelm is real, especially in a busy home full of sticky fingers, backyard adventures, and endless pajamas.
Trying to do all the laundry in one day left me exhausted…and still behind by the next morning!
One load a day flips the script:
- It turns a big, stressful task into a quick, doable rhythm.
- It keeps laundry from snowballing into chaos.
- It gives you a quiet sense of accomplishment—first thing in the morning.
How I Make It Work (Even with a Big Family)
Here’s the simple routine that changed everything:
- Start a load first thing.
Before breakfast or morning homeschool, I toss a load into the washer.
(I even set a reminder on my phone at first to help it become a habit!) - Switch it over mid-morning.
Around morning snack time, I move the load to the dryer or hang it to dry. - Fold and put away after lunch.
The key here? Complete the full cycle—wash, dry, fold, AND put away—before dinner.
No more baskets lurking in the hallway! - Keep baskets small.
I ditched the oversized hampers and switched to smaller baskets for each bedroom.
Smaller loads = quicker folding + less overwhelm. These are the baskets that I love and use for our laundry!
What About Catch-Up Days?
Life happens.
Some days we have field trips, doctor appointments, or rough nights with a teething baby.
When I miss a day, I just double up the next morning—without guilt.
This rhythm is here to serve you, not the other way around!
Tips to Make One Load a Day Even Easier
- Teach your kids to help! Even toddlers can put socks into drawers.
- Sort laundry differently. I don’t separate whites and colors unless it’s brand-new red socks.
Family laundry stays simple around here! - Choose quick cycles. Modern washers have fast, energy-efficient settings perfect for daily loads.
- Have a “laundry catch-up” basket. If something doesn’t get put away immediately, it goes in a small basket in the laundry room—not in piles all over the house.
The Real Gift: More Peace
When laundry isn’t looming over my day, I feel lighter.
More present.
More peaceful.
One load a day isn’t just about clothes.
It’s about creating a home where tasks feel manageable, and there’s margin left over for joy.
Mama, if you’ve been feeling buried under the weight of laundry, I hope you’ll try this simple shift.
It changed my days—and it might just change yours, too.
